Position summary :
The Assistant Brewer joins a well-established brewery, brings a passion for craft beer and brewing, and a love for research and exploration.
Reporting to the Head Brewer, the Assistant Brewer assists in all aspects of day-to-day operations from grain to glass. The ideal candidate has a strong base of brewing knowledge and practice, with some professional experience preferred. We're looking for someone who's ready to dive into brewing and related tasks starting on Day 1, and comes to the job with a growth and learning mindset. Extensive on-the-job training will be provided; the expectation is that the Assistant Brewer will develop into a collaborative partner to the Head brewer and will help run day-to-day operations, create new recipes, plan barrel projects, manage festivals, and execute production schedules.
The right candidate will be a strong team player, able to interface with staff ranging from the brewery, to the restaurant, to management. This job requires a hard worker - mentally and physically - who maintains a clean and organized workspace, is dependable and accountable, and highly safety-oriented. Our restaurant is open year round, including weekends and most holidays; although this job is intended to be primarily M-F, the Assistant Brewer must be available "on call" on designated weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Milling, wort production, tank management/dry-hopping, record keeping.
- Tank transfers, CIP/SIP operations, cellar management.
- Bottling, kegging, and cleaning draft lines.
- Barrel work with both clean and wild beers.
- Select beer festivals/pouring events to participate in, and manage event logistics and operations.
- Daily keg checks, inventory, and data collection.
- Interface with front of house managers.
- Address beer/pouring issues affecting restaurant service, when and as they arise.
Job Requirements :
- 2-5 years home brewing experience; some professional experience as a production brewer and cellar person is desirable.
- Impeccable attention to detail and quality control. Willing and able to follow detailed instructions to the letter.
- Possesses a mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Eager to learn and execute brewery SOPs under direction of head brewer.
- Able to work both independently and in a team environment; strong multitasker with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
Physical requirements :
- The job is physical and the applicant must be able to bend over, kneel, crouch, twist and stand for the duration of a shift.
- Lift 55lbs and maneuver 160lbs repeatedly.
- Handling of hazardous chemicals safely.
- Operate complex machinery.
- Must be able to work on a ladders.
- Conditions within the brewery are extreme and the work environment can be hot, cold, wet and noisy.
